Mike Murray Making a Difference Scholarship

Fueled by a start-up donation from three of Murray’s long-time friends and colleagues from the Society for Technical Communication (STC)—Jon Kessler, Karen Lane, and Dan Voss—the Mike Murray Make a Difference Scholarship honors a remarkable leader who has been battling Parkinson’s Diseases since 2008. Mike Murray is an ardent UCF supporter and an expert communicator who has made a huge difference in the Central Florida community over the past 30 years through his communications expertise, leadership, and countless volunteer activities.

Recipient Criteria
Recipients will be selected based on the following established criteria:
1. Applicants must be enrolled part-time or full-time in the College.
2. Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program in School of Communication
Sciences and Disorders.
3. Applicants may be required to provide a resume that includes their employment history and involvement in volunteer/extracurricular activities.
4. Applicants must submit a brief personal statement (500 words or less) outlining how they will make a difference in the lives of their patients or to the standard of patient care.
5. Applicants are encouraged to submit a letter of recommendation, although not required.
6. Preference will be given to applicants with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Applicants are encouraged to describe any plans they might have to effect positive change for specific patient populations beyond the provision of individual patient care.
  4. Recommended but not required: provide a letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the School of Communication Sciences & Disorders.
