Judith G. Thames Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded in Fall 2022 semester

Judith G. Thames, ‘73, is a proud and highly involved social work alumna. She has played an active role in the Central Florida community as a leader and advocate for aging.
Over her career, she held a number of prestigious positions such as chief executive officer and executive director of the Area Agency on Aging and the state president of AARP.
Most recently, she was the president of UCF Life. As a UCF student, Thames was a non-traditional student and a single mother.
With the support of her husband, Byron Thames, she established this scholarship out of gratitude for her alma mater and the positive impact her education had on her and her children.

Recipient Criteria
In order to apply:

  • Applicant must have a minimum overall 3.0 GPA for undergraduate students and a graduate student must have a minimum of 3.3 GPA.
  • Applicant must provide a brief essay and resume (one page, double-spaced, 12-point font) on involvement in clubs, organizations, volunteer leadership positions, and community service.
  • Applicant must provide a letter of recommendation related to the volunteer work they have done within the community.
  • Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Social Work

  • (2) Undergraduate Student at $1,000.00
  • (2) Graduate Student at $1,000.00
