The Detective Barry Pruette Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Altamonte Springs Police Department established this endowed scholarship in 2010 in memory of Detective Barry Pruette. Detective Pruette was a highly respected member of the Altamonte Springs Police Department who died in 1999 from a heart attack at the age of 42. He served the department in many roles, including patrol officer, traffic officer and detective. Detective Pruette was especially passionate about working as a field training officer, helping to mold new officers. The scholarship was created with the intent of providing assistance to young men and women from all walks of life who want to become law enforcement officers, whether local, state or federal.

Recipient Criteria:
Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student majoring in Criminal Justice
Must be junior or senior
Must be pursuing a career in the criminal justice field in law enforcement (local, state or federal)
Must provide a 500-word narrative describing his/her career goals
Recipient will be invited, and encouraged, to attend an awards presentation ceremony at the Altamonte Springs Police Department
