Judith G. Thames Scholarship

Judith G. Thames, ‘73, is a proud and highly involved social work alumna. She has played an active role in the Central Florida community as a leader and advocate for aging.
Over her career, she held a number of prestigious positions such as chief executive officer and executive director of the Area Agency on Aging and the state president of AARP.
Most recently, she was the president of UCF Life. As a UCF student, Thames was a non-traditional student and a single mother.
With the support of her husband, Byron Thames, she established this scholarship out of gratitude for her alma mater and the positive impact her education had on her and her children.

This scholarship supports undergraduate or graduate students in the College of Health Professions and Sciences.

Recipients will be selected based on the following established criteria:

  • Must be enrolled as a full time undergraduate or graduate student in the College of Health Professions and Sciences majoring in Social work
  • Must have a minimum of a cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • Must provide a brief essay (1-page, double-spaced, 12-point font) describing how the recipient will aid in the achievement of his or her personal goals.
  • Must provide a resume.

The scholarship may be used to pay for tuition, textbooks, fees, and any other items included in the cost of attendance published annually by the University.
