Dr. Cheryl Evans Green Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded this upcoming Fall semester

Cheryl Evans Green, Ph.D. was a founding member of the School of Social Work and a member of the UCF faculty for 30 years. Her contributions to the school, profession and community are countless. From the day she arrived in the early 1980’s, Green hit the ground running and her drive and enthusiasm for learning made her a teacher most will never forget. In the classroom, she was a ball of energy that often challenged the students to think beyond what they see and always question the meaning. In the office, she maintained an open-door policy and always took the time to sit and talk with students. Green believed in the worth and dignity of all that she served, values core in the field of social work. She was never afraid to challenge what she believed was unfairness, but she always did this in a calm and professional manner that allowed the listener to question his or her own beliefs and values and how that related to their actions. Green died in 2007 and the university’s Black Faculty Association created this scholarship in 2008 as a monument to preserve the cultural legacy of her selfless giving and influence in the lives of students and the community.
