Dr. David B. Ingram Memorial Scholar Award

Dr. David B. Ingram arrived at UCF in 1975 as one of the first two faculty members for the Department of Communicative Disorders and helped establish curriculum and earn accreditation for the new department. He helped develop one of the first voice laboratories in the State University System, giving UCF credibility in speech pathology. After his retirement in 2003, he was honored with the naming of the David B. Ingram Voice Care Center at the UCF Communication Disorders Clinic. Dr. Ingram listened intently and helped others solve problems. His specialty was voice disorders, and he was a recognized expert in the field. This award celebrates the qualities that David exhibited in his career and personally: perseverance, dedication, caring for others, lifelong learning, mentorship, and problem solving.

Recipient Criteria

In order to apply:

  • Applicant must be a full-time graduate student in the Communication Sciences and Disorders program.
  • Applicant must be in good academic standing, with a GPA of 3.3. and above.
  • Applicant must submit an essay (not more than two pages) explaining how they have persevered in their lives and/or educational journey thus far and discuss their professional vision and goals. All essays will be reviewed by the college scholarship committees. In addition, recipients’ essays might be shared with donors.
  • Preference is given to students with financial need.
  • Preference will be given to students focused on the areas of voice and upper airway disorders.
