Nanette McLain Endowed Scholarship

Nannette McLain, a charter faculty member of UCF, believed that teachers are professional people who must model good learning for their students; must know and understand their students; must set appropriate standards for achievement and help students meet those standards; should be student friendly and respectful; should demonstrate that learning can and should be fun; that teachers deserve respect; and that teachers need to be continuous learners if they expect to be good teachers.

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship awards to students at the University of Central Florida in the College of Community Innovation.
This scholarship supports undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Community Innovation and Education.

Recipients will be selected based on the following established criteria:

• Applicants will submit an essay of no more than 1,200 words that demonstrating an understanding of the beliefs held by Nannette McLain with regard to teachers and teaching and addresses the following points.
  -Why is teaching your career goal?
  -What experiences in your life motivated you to become a secondary teacher?
  -Describe your long-term commitment to the classroom.
  -What barriers do you face to achieve your goal.
• Must be full time or part time student
• Must be enrolled in an Initial Teacher Preparation Program in the College of Community Innovation and Education at UCF majoring in secondary education.
• Must be a junior, senior or graduate student
• Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and UCF GPA as an undergraduate or a minimum 3.0 GPA as a graduate student

This Scholarship will be used to pay for tuition, textbooks, fees, and any other items included in the cost of education.
