Mary Page O'Connell Memorial Scholarship
Mary Page (Burks) O’Connell graduated from UCF with a BA in Spanish and a BS in Foreign Language Education. After graduation, she began her career as a Spanish teacher at Palatka High School, where she taught until November 1998. Mary was passionate about teaching, traveling, reading, and spending time in nature. She cherished moments with family and friends and shared her appreciation for life with everyone around her. She passed away following a courageous two-year battle with breast cancer.
This scholarship supports students in the College of Arts and Humanities.
Recipients will be selected based on the following established criteria:
• Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher
• Must demonstrate financial need based upon guidelines set forth in the Free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
• Preference will be given to undergraduate students majoring in Spanish or Foreign Language Education
• Preference will be given to Breast Cancer Survivors
The scholarship will be awarded annually and used to pay for educational related expenses for participation in a Department of Foreign Language Study Abroad Program.
