Newland & Newland Single Parent Scholarship

Which Students Are Eligible to Apply?
Our Fall 2025 award is offered to members of single-parent households who are pursuing an education in law. The applicant must be a single parent or a child of a single parent. Other eligibility criteria include:

  1. Must be enrolled in an accredited college, university, or law school for the Fall 2025 semester
  2. Must be pursuing a paralegal, legal assistant, or pre-law program.
  3. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0
  4. Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States

If you are interested in applying, please submit the following materials through the application form at the bottom of this page:

  • Contact information
  • Proof of enrollment at an accredited U.S. college or university
  • Professional headshot
    Additionally, we ask each applicant to submit an essay of 500-1000 words using the following prompt:

How has the experience of being a single parent or the child of a single parent influenced your educational and career goals? How do you plan to achieve those goals?

How Do We Select Our Winner?
Scholarship team will review all applications using the following selection criteria:

  1. Does the student’s application meet all requirements for the award?
  2. Does the student’s essay clearly and adequately address all aspects of the prompt?
  3. Does the student’s writing stand out in terms of creativity and thoughtfulness?
