FNPN Scholarship Application Requirements

Qualification and Eligibility – All Applicants
- Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or permanent residents. In addition, the applicant must maintain residence within the State of Florida.
- ALL applicants for Scholarships must be active Florida Nurse Practitioner Network (FNPN) members before March 10, 2025.
- The recipient of an FNPN scholarship must remain a member in good standing through the completion of their APRN program and graduation or completed doctoral project (research, quality improvement project), whichever is applicable.
- Applicants must have an unencumbered license to practice in the State of Florida as a Registered Nurse (RN), or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), or Autonomous APRN. Note: Applicants for the NP Scholarship Award who are in a BSN-DNP program must have an active RN license until receiving licensure as an APRN.
- All applicants must attend the annual conference to receive their scholarship award.
- Nurse Practitioner Student Scholarship Applicants: Each NP Student applicant must have completed the first semester of a nationally accredited Nurse Practitioner program at a college or university in the State of Florida and maintain good standing with the academic institution before the application deadline (July 15, 2025).
- Nurse Practitioner scholarship applicants: Each NP applicant must be licensed as an APRN or Autonomous APRN within the State of Florida and maintain current board certification credentialing through AANP or ANCC. In addition, NPs must have completed the first semester of a nationally accredited doctoral program (DNP or PhD) before the application deadline (July 15, 2025).
- Recognizing that many nurses and nurse practitioners maintain employment while furthering their education, applicants may be enrolled in their respective programs either part-time (minimum 6 credit hours/semester) or full-time (minimum 9 credit hours/semester).
- Applicants may not be a member of the FNPN Board of Directors, a relative of a current FNPN Board Member or State Representative, an FNPN staff member, or a family member of an FNPN staff member.
- If selected to receive an FNPN Scholarship, the recipient must attend the Annual Conference, held August 21-23rd, 2025, in Orlando, Florida. Conference registration details will be sent to the recipient.
Ford Scholarship Essay Discussion:
- Discuss how you would promote your role as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in carrying on Dr. Ford’s legacy of eliminating barriers to healthcare that affect vulnerable populations and improve public health outcomes. How will this be reflected in using the scholarship funds you receive?
- As an APRN, discuss how you will advocate for improving the care of vulnerable populations such as the elderly, homeless, women in need, and/or children. Discuss how the role of the APRN relates to improved outcomes in public health and how this will be reflected in your use of the scholarship funds you receive.
- Discuss how you will utilize the role of the APRN in supporting education, research, and evidence-based clinical practice of nurses and advanced practice registered nurses. Describe the role of the APRN in removing barriers to accessing healthcare and advocating for the needs of the underserved population by improving public health outcomes. Discuss how this will be reflected in your use of the scholarship funds.
Essay Format
An essay is required to apply for the Dr. Loretta C. Ford Advanced Practice Registered Nursing Student Scholarship, Dr. Jean Aertker Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – Health Advocacy Scholarship and the Dr. Karin Klause Legacy Scholarship
- The essay is expected to demonstrate substantive scholarly writing.
- The essay should be typewritten in Times New Roman font size 12 and double-spaced with standard 1-inch margins.
- Include a title page with the name of the scholarship you are applying for and your chosen essay question.
- DO NOT include your name or any other personal identifiers or the name of your academic institution on the title page or in the body of the essay.
- The essay’s body is limited to a maximum of 1000 words (not including the title page and references).
- Number each page of the essay in the right margin of the header.
- References and citations are not required but are encouraged. If included in the essay, all citations (parenthetical and in-text) and references must be in APA format and include a reference page.
