SWEA Florida’s Cultural Scholarship

SWEA is a nonprofit organization for Swedish-speaking women who are living or have lived abroad. SWEA was founded in 1979 and is a global network with approximately 7,000 Swedish-speaking women in more than 70 chapters and 30 countries. Our local chapter in Florida has around 170 members and was founded in 1992.

SWEA supports education through scholarships for projects or studies with specific emphasis on Sweden or Swedish aspects. The goal of SWEA Florida’s Cultural Scholarship is to encourage, support and raise awareness of the Swedish culture, traditions and language.

The scholarship for the 2025-26 academic year is up to two thousand five hundred US dollars ($2,500) depending on the durability of the studies.

The goal of SWEA Florida’s Cultural Scholarship is to encourage and support any Florida resident male or female who wishes to study or pursue any projects in Sweden or in Florida study or pursue projects related to any aspect of Swedish life and culture. Project or studies can be conducted in any of the following areas and more:

• The Swedish language.
• Swedish culture or traditions.
• Environmental science.
• A healthcare program promoting better health for women and/or children.
• A handicraft, art, glass art, music, literature or design project or study; or
• An exchange program with Sweden in any area.

Along with the application the following documents should be submitted:

a) A Curriculum Vitae;
b) A project proposal, describing the applicant’s planned studies, length, and goals;
c) A financial statement explaining educational expenses and financial assets applicable to the studies;
and
d) A letter of recommendation regarding the applicant’s possibilities to fulfill the proposed
project/studies (e.g. an instructor from the applicant’s college or university);
e) In case the student is already in Sweden please submit a printout of the grades/or probe of study.
