Massage Tools Scholarship

Who Can Apply
We are seeking undergraduate students currently enrolled in accredited massage therapy programs, allied health programs with practice management concentrations, or business programs focused on healthcare management within the United States.

High school seniors who have been accepted into qualifying programs for the 2027 fall semester are also encouraged to apply.

For Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) Candidates

We support students at four critical educational milestones:

  • Initial Training: Completion of a state-approved Massage Therapy Program (Certificate or Diploma) requiring 500 to 1,000+ hours of instruction in Anatomy, Kinesiology, techniques, ethics, and business practices (typically 6 to 18 months).
  • Licensing Exam Preparation: Preparing for and passing the required licensing exam, usually the MBLEx (Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination).
  • State Licensure: Submitting paperwork and fees to officially become a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT).
  • Post-Licensure Specialization: Pursuing Continuing Education (CE) in advanced modalities (e.g., cupping, lymphatic drainage, prenatal, sports massage) or seeking voluntary higher-level credentials like Board Certification (BCTMB).

Ideal candidates are those pursuing:

  • Massage therapy certification or degree programs leading to LMT licensure
  • Healthcare practice management degrees with a focus on spa or massage therapy operations
  • Business administration degrees with a concentration in healthcare or spa management
  • Allied health programs that include massage therapy practice management coursework

For Practice Manager Candidates

We support aspiring managers at five strategic career milestones:

  • Formal Education: Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree (e.g., Business, Healthcare Administration, Hospitality) or a Graduate Certificate in Practice Management.
  • Professional Certification: Obtaining a voluntary professional credential such as Certified Spa Manager (CSM), Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE), or other recognized healthcare management certifications.
  • Business Development & Leadership Training: Participating in advanced management training, industry conferences, or executive education focusing on finance, operations, or legal compliance (e.g., HIPAA training for medical practices).
  • Practice Launch or Expansion: Taking a lead role in opening a new spa or clinic or implementing a major expansion/renovation project.
  • A successful applicant will demonstrate not only strong academic performance but also a genuine commitment to the massage therapy profession. We believe in supporting students who are preparing to build careers centered on therapeutic excellence and professional practice leadership.

Ideal practice manager candidates are those pursuing:

  • Advanced certifications in spa or medical practice management
  • Professional development programs focused on practice operations and leadership

Applicants must also meet the following criteria:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be a legal resident of the United States or a holder of a valid student visa
  • Must be currently enrolled in or accepted to a full-time undergraduate program or massage therapy certification program at an accredited US institution aligned with one of the educational milestones listed above
  • Must be pursuing a career as a Licensed Massage Therapist or Practice Manager in the massage/spa industry

For Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) Students:

Discuss specific equipment and body mechanics practices that protect practitioner health throughout decades of practice.
  • The Future of Client Comfort: Discuss how innovations in massage tables, bolsters, and therapeutic equipment are elevating client expectations and enhancing treatment outcomes. Explore how ergonomic design and quality equipment contribute to more effective massage therapy sessions.
  • Mobile vs. Clinic Practice Equipment Decisions: Compare the equipment considerations for building a mobile massage practice versus working in a clinical setting. Which path interests you and why, and what equipment investments will be most critical to your success?

For Practice Manager Candidates:

  • The Business Case for Quality Equipment: Budget-conscious practice managers often face pressure to cut costs on equipment and supplies. Build a compelling business argument for why investing in professional-grade massage tables, linens, and therapeutic tools actually increases profitability.
  • Creating Service Differentiation Through Equipment: In a saturated wellness market, how can practice managers use specialized equipment offerings to create unique service packages that competitors can’t easily replicate?
  • Scaling Equipment Infrastructure: You’re managing a single-location practice, preparing to expand to multiple locations. Describe your approach to standardizing equipment across locations while maintaining quality and managing costs. Address vendor negotiations, bulk purchasing, equipment lifecycle management, and how to maintain brand consistency as you scale.
