Scholarship Overview

In 2026, we turn our attention to the healthcare industry, with a particular emphasis on how chemical materials—such as hyaluronic acid and beryllium sheets—are driving breakthroughs in medical applications. We invite passionate students to explore how these chemical materials are reshaping the future of healthcare and to identify innovative solutions with transformative potential.
Awards
- $1,000 Scholarship: Awarded to the research proposal that best demonstrates innovation, clinical practicality, and potential impact on the medical industry.
- Showcase on SAM Website & Industry Exposure: The winning entry will be featured on the Stanford Advanced Materials website and may be shared with our network of partners in the medical industry.
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to high school students, two-year community college students, four-year university students, and graduate students worldwide. Submissions must be in one of the following languages: English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Japanese, or Korean.
- Submitted work must focus on the application of chemical materials in the medical industry.
- Projects that are original, technically feasible, and have the potential to impact the development of medical technology are strongly encouraged.
- The use of artificial intelligence (AI) to generate content is strictly prohibited. Any such content will lead to immediate disqualification.
Submission Guidelines
Please submit the following materials via the online form, ensuring that all sections meet the specified requirements:
- Abstract: Submit a concise abstract (maximum 250 words) outlining the project’s objective, research approach, and significance to the medical industry.
- Article: A detailed article (approximately 1000 words) focusing on the application of chemical materials in the medical industry, their mechanisms of action, and future development trends.
- Biography: Include a brief personal biography (approximately 150 words) in italics at the end of the article, with the author’s name in bold.

- Hyaluronic Acid: Advances in orthopedic lubrication, post-surgical anti-adhesion, drug delivery systems, and more.
- Beryllium Sheets: Exploration of how properties such as low density, high stiffness, and thermal stability can be applied in advanced medical imaging equipment (e.g., precision components in CT or MRI), X-ray medical devices, or laser medical instruments.
- Other Materials: Applications in bioimaging using materials such as bioabsorbable polymers, medical-grade titanium alloys, or antimicrobial coatings.
